10 Counties Placed on Alert For Illicit Brew Following the death of 10 people In Nakuru Last Week
Rift valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya has placed 10 counties on alert for Illicit brew in the region.
This comes just days after 10 people died after consuming the illegal brew last week in Hodi Hodi area in
Bahati, Nakuru County.
The counties put on alert include Nakuru, Bomet , Kericho, Nandi, Kajiado, Laikipia, Samburu, Transnzoia
Several government officials have also been suspended in Nakuru. Those suspended include chiefs, assistants chiefs, deputy county commissioners, and sub-county police commanders.
Natembeya said that his office will take action against any officer allowing the sale of illicit brew. “If lives are lost due to officer’s laxity, they will be sent home,” warned Natembeya.
In a joint crackdown by the police and local administration in Bahati on August 13, efforts bore no fruits after the officers broke into four rental houses. However, they later uncovered a manhole where they recovered American chemicals used in making the brew.
