There are 47,564,296 million people in the country compared to 38.6 million in 2010.
24 million of the population are women, followed by 23.6 who are men. This year’s census included intersex and their population is 1,524
According to the report the most populous counties are the capital Nairobi, Kiambu, Nakuru, Kakamega, Bungoma, Meru and Kilifi.
Nairobi has 4.4 million people while Kiambu and Nakuru have more than two million residents.
The list populous counties are Lamu, Isiolo, Samburu, Tana River and Taita Taveta.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has thanked KNBS for conducting a successful Census saying Kenya is the first country in Africa to release the results two months after the counting exercise was completed.
“I would also like to thank the security team. I am happy to note that this is the first Census which was fully funded by my administration,” Uhuru said after releasing the results.
