Anthony Kang’ethe’s body was found Monday morning on the shores of the Indian Ocean after an overnight search by local divers and the public.
A 14-year-old KCPE candidate, Mark Kamau, who was with Kang’ethe, is also feared dead.
Mpeketoni OCPD Harrison Njuguna confirmed the incident, saying that a search for the second student was under way.
Mr Njuguna said the two had gone swimming with their friends at the Baharini channel and were swept away.
“This morning, the body of Anthony Kang’ethe was found on the shores of the Indian Ocean at Baharini area. This was after a search mission that was launched on Sunday evening. Another student is yet to be found. The two were with a group of colleagues at the beach for a swimming expedition before things turned awry. Divers are still at the scene of the incident searching for the other missing student,” said Mr Njuguna.
The OCPD warned people not to attempt swimming in Indian Ocean channels which are known to be dangerous.
The body of the KCSE candidate was taken to the Mpeketoni Sub-County Hospital mortuary.
