South Imenti Member of Parliament Kathuri Murungi has asked the government  the government to  close all airports for a period of 30 days following the rising number of coronavirus cases in the country.

Taking to his social media, the legislator stated

‘There is nothing like self quarantine of people coming from countries affected by this virus…”

The Mp asked the government to either quarantine all those who are arriving in the country for 14 days or close the airports for a period of 30 days.

He added that there are four MPs who landed from London and headed straight to parliament. Those who he claims they should have set an example to Kenyans by quarantine themselves before showing up for sittings.

He asked the government not to be lenient on matters COVID 19

This comes a few days after Nairobi County Speaker Beatrice Elachi suspended county assembly sittings for the next  30 days to prevent the spread of the coronavirus among MCAs and county assembly staff.

The speaker said the decision was made in view of the fact that the County Assembly is located “in a high risk area” and also because a number of MCAs and staff have recently travelled to destinations affected by the virus.

Parliament also adjourned for one month as some churches and Jamia Mosque suspended congregation prayers.
