Kenyans have in the recent past expressed disappointment over the stae of “national icons”. When a picture of Lolani Kalu was shared on Twitter, Kenyans expressed their sympathy on a man who will always be remembered as one of the leading Swahili journalists in the country, musician, actor, comedian and Swahili poet .
Lolani was among the clique of journalists in the early 2000s who changed the local media industry.
Photos of Lolani were shared on Twitter by his fan identified as Ahmed Mohamed, who also revealed his sad state of life.
‘FEW DAYS AGO I ASKED ABOUT THE WHEREABOUTS OF JOURNALIST LOLANI KALU. TODAY CHIEF INSPECTOR SIYAT OF KALOLENI STATION HAS FOUND HIM. I HAVE SPOKEN TO LOLANI. HE IS GOING THROUGH HARD TIMES & SEEKING FOR YOUR HELP. HIS NUMBER IS 0720554930. KINDLY SEND HIM WHAT YOU CAN. THANKS,’ HE TWEETED.

Siyat commented on Ahmed’s post and clarified that the multitalented reporter is not battling addiction as some people claimed.
‘I AM THE GUY IN PHOTO NDUGU WITH LOLANI, HE HAS NO ADDICTION ON ANYTHING. HE IS A CHANGED PERSON AND ONLY CARING FOR HIS OLD MUM. HE NEEDS EQUIPMENT LIKE COMPUTER, CAMERA TO START HIS OWN MEDIA SHOW CALLED LAMATADUNI. HE IS TALENTED AND AMBITIOUS,’ HE WROTE.
