Former Legislator sentenced for 12 months
Laikipia North ex- Member of Parliament Mathew Lempurkel Lekidime has been sentenced to one-year imprisonment over assault charges.
The former legislator was accused of assaulting his incumbent counterpart Sarah Korere on November 21, 2016 in Nairobi.
“He willfully slapped the plaintiff on the left cheek and kicked her on the lower abdomen”, the court heard.
Handing him the penalty, Senior Principal Magistrate Hellen Onkwani observed that “as a leader, Lempurkel should set a good example to Kenyans.”
The 12-month sentence has no option of fine.
The ex-MP has fourteen days to appeal the ruling or begin the sentence.
