Is Sakaja’s degree fake or legitimate?

Popularly known as Super Senator,Johnson Sakaja ,is under immense pressure from Kenyans over questions on his academic qualifications.

This comes hardly one week after the IEBC gave green light to Sakaja to vie for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat.

He is now facing four petitions barring him from contesting for Nairobi’s gubernatorial seat.

Mr.Adrian Kamotho,Sakaja’s lawyer asked the IEBC’s Dispute Resolution Committee chair for more time to respond to the allegations.

The petitions will be heard on 15th June as from 2pm.

This plot twist has emerged after allegations that Sakaja’s name is missing from the graduation booklet of Team’s University. According to the degree certificate, Sakaja ought to have graduated on October 2016.However,Mr.Sakaja’s name does not appear on the school’s graduands booklet.

The Commission for University Education (CUE) issued a statement saying that the senator presented a degree from a Ugandan university. He planned to use the papers for IEBC clearance for the race.

Alex Musalia ,a petitioner who filed the complaint with IEBC stated that the manner in which the senator acquired the degree is questionable yet he was still serving as an MP.

Mr Dennis Gakuu Wahome, yet another petitioner wants the senator barred for failing to “meet the constitutional and statutory requirements to have a degree.”

“The respondent has demonstrated fraud and forgeries that have the potential to erode the public confidence in and diminish the integrity of qualifications in Uganda and Kenyan degrees both regionally as well as globally,”

In his supporting affidavit, Mr.Wahome said that Sakaja’s degree was printed at 10 pm on May 29 this year. He went ahead to state that a forensic audit would confirm the allegations

According to the Elections Act in Kenya, a person vying for gubernatorial seat must be a holder of a degree from a University recognized in Kenya.

Mr.John Orindi, communications director in the UoN said Sakaja was admitted in 2003.His transcripts were however incomplete.

The University of Nairobi (UoN) confirmed that the Senator is still a student as he is yet to complete his course. Sakaja has previously claimed he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science from UON.

Sakaja has dismissed the allegations claiming that its all propaganda.

“Next they will say that I wasn’t born. Forget propaganda; sell your candidate. Our march is unstoppable, our faith is unshakeable and our victory is inevitable,” Sakaja said in a previous interview.

Meanwhile, Sakaja affirms that his certificates are legitimate and that his name was deliberately omitted.

Sakaja is vying for Nairobi county governor with his running mate Absa bank CEO James Njoroge Muchiri.
