Kenya Prisons Commissioner-General sacked, arrested over Kamiti Escape
Days after three convicts escaped from the Kamiti Maximum Prison, President Uhuru Kenyatta has effected changes in the leadership of the Kenya Prison Service.
The Head State Wednesday revoked with immediate effect the appointment of Kenya Prisons Commissioner General Wycliffe Ogalo and picked Brigadier (Rtd) John Kibaso Warioba in his place.
In a statement released by State House, the President witnessed the swearing-in of the newly appointed Commissioner-General.
“His Excellency the President has today appointed and witnessed the swearing-in of Brigadier (Rtd) John Kibaso Warioba as the Commissioner-General of the Kenya Prisons Service,” the statement said.
Earlier, the President held a crisis meeting at State House with top Interior Ministry officials and prisons bosses and directed security agencies to pursue the escapees with all possible means.
Kenyatta also asked Kenyans to be vigilant and give information that may lead to the arrest of the three escaped convicts.
It has now emerged that the sacked Kenya Prisons Commissioner-General Wycliffe Ogalo and Kamiti Prison Commandant Charles Mutembei have been arrested by Anti-Terror Unit. The two are headed to the DCI headquarters for questioning following the escape of the three terror convicts.
