Kenya’s Albert Korir and Peres Jepchirchir star in the New York City Marathon
Kenyan duo Albert Korir and Peres Jepchirchir are the latest winners of the New York City Marathon in the men’s and women’s category respectively.
Korir prevailed in the race and finished in 2 hours, 8 minutes, and 22 seconds, while Jepchirchir clocked in at 2 hours, 22 minutes, and 39 seconds in her first appearance at the competition.
With the victory, Jepchirchir becomes the first runner to win both Olympic gold and the NYC marathon.
In 2019, Albert Korir finished second in the same competition. The NYC marathon title is Korir’s fifth in a marathon after Vienna City in 2017, Cape Town in 2018, and Houston and Ottawa in 2019.
Another Kenyan, Viola Cheptoo, finished behind Jepchirchir to bag silver in the women’s category.
