Kondele chaos: Police shared intelligence with DP’s team

Police in Kisumu has said that they forewarned Deputy President William Ruto’s team to skip the Kondele area in DP’s tour of Kisumu, over tension that was building among the crowd.

Through a statement released by the National Police Service, intelligence was shared promptly with DP’s team with a recommendation to skip the area.

“There was tension within Kondele owing to alleged distribution of campaign logistical funds among local groups,” Police Spokesperson Bruno Shioso said.

Agitated local youth cut short Ruto’s campaign by pelting stones at this convoy, destroying some vehicles in the process.

Police lobbed tear gas canisters to disperse the crowd as the Deputy President was hampered to safety. No injuries were reported.

The Deputy President was expected to complete his tour of Kisumu before heading to Migori County in his three-day campaign in the Nyanza region.

Kenyans online condemned the attack on the Deputy President’s convoy terming it primitive.
