Kenyan journalist Yassin Juma has been released by an Ethiopian court on bail.
The court ordered his release after police failed to present evidence to prove he committed a crime according to their defence team.
Juma was arrested alongside Ethiopia’s Oromia Media Network journalist Melese Diribsa and three other individuals following the killing of Oromo musician Hachalu Hundessa. All were released on bail.
Reports indicate that Yassin Juma was arrested because of his close relationship with the controversial musician, one of few people who openly criticised Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s government.
He is also reported to have close ties with yet another Oromo activist Jawar Mohammed, in who’s media house Juma was working in Addis prior to his arrest
