Parliament recalled from recess to allow MPs honour Moi

The National Assembly will hold a special sitting on Monday to allow Members of Parliament pay tribute to the late former President Daniel arap Moi.

MPs who are on recess were set to resume sittings on Tuesday, February 11 but the government has declared the day a public holiday to allow Kenyans attend the memorial service of Mzee Moi.

According to a letter from House Majority Leader Aden Duale to Speaker Justin Muturi, the President’s message on the nomination of Mutahi Kagwe and Betty Maina as Cabinet Secretaries for Health and Industrialization respectively and six other Principal Secretaries will also be read out on Monday.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is currently in Washington DC, USA, is expected back in the country on Friday night and will lead the nation in paying last respects to the former president tomorrow.

Moi will be interred at his Kabarak home on Wednesday, February 12 and will be accorded a State Funeral.
