Nairobi County advertises Assembly Speaker’s position a day after it fell vacant


The Nairobi County Assembly has advertised the vacant speaker position, a day after Beatrice Elachi resigned.

The Kenya constitution requires that the speaker be elected among persons who are not members of the County Assembly.

Applicants will be required to fill in and sign nomination forms and attach a copy of their resumes.

The applications will then have to be hand-delivered to the office of the clerk of the County Assembly.

The notice on the dailies also warned those that have; been State Officers or other public officers, been members of the IEBC in the last 5 years, have not been Kenyan citizens for more than 10 years that they need not apply.

The seat vacant on Tuesday after Speaker Beatrice Elachi resigned in a televised statement, citing threats on her lifeas a key reason for her exit.
