22 girls rescued from facing the knife


Twenty-two girls in Kuria East, Migori County are seeking refuge at Taranyanga Primary Boarding School after escaping female genital mutilation.

A community-based organization, GOSESO chairperson Susan Mutinde said the 22 girls in their custody fled from their homes.

Mrs. Mutinde said most of the girls flee from their homes without clothes.  She has appealed to the government through the office of gender to support the girls at the rescue camp.

In his remarks during the Jamhuri celebrations Migori County Commissioner Joseph Rotich said security officers are prepared to deal with individuals abetting female circumcision.
