A Nairobi court on Thursday declined to order Embakasi East MP Babu Owino be taken to a private hospital for treatment.

Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot said the MP should be treated at the Industrial Area Remand Prison facility where he is detained after he was charged with attempted murder.

The MP was expected to appear in court on Thursday for the hearing of his case where he is charged with incitement to violence in the case he is accused of subversion and uttering abusive words against President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2017.

His lawyer’s told the court that prison authorities failed to produce him in court since he was unwell.

According to his lawyers, Owino is suffering from chest pains.
