14 people in Southern Pakistan have died and hundreds have been reported sick due to an apparent toxic gas leak since Sunday.
Authorities have not been able to explain the origin of the gas leak. Concerns are now growing in the port city of Karachi in Sindh province that the toxic gas could still be leaking.
Dr Zafar Mehdi of Sindh Province’s Health Department said that 500 people have been affected by the gas, some who are admitted in the Intensive Care Unit. He added that autopsies had been carried out on the dead and that post-mortem reports were expected in 72 hours.
Residents of Karachi town took to the streets to demonstrate while wearing face masks. They are now demanding answers from officials who have since reported that they cannot find any evidence of a leak.
