Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has responded to DPP Noordin Haji’s summon over inciteful remarks made during the Kibra campaigns on Sunday
Babu Owino posted in his facebook account and stated that he had been made aware of the document by the DPP directing his summoning to the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to record a statement via social media and the document has nor ye been served to him officially.
“If indeed it is true that the ODPP has written this letter then as a lawyer and as a lawmaker, I would wish to remind him that the NCIC is an independent statutory body established under the National Cohesion and Integration Act No.12 of 2008 and does not take directions from any individual or office.
“It is imperative that the ODPP respects the same law that he is sworn to uphold and desists from issuing reckless and illegal orders. So I will await formal communication from the NCIC failure to which I will treat the ODPP’s social media communication as rumours,” he fired at the DPP.
He added that he was ready to stand by his public utterances in any forum stating,” My conscience is clear. I have committed no crime and done no wrong. I am ready to stand by any of my public utterances in any forum. I am protected by the Bill of Rights enshrined in our Constitution.”
