Nick Mwendwa released unconditionally, refunded bail money

Suspended Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Nick Mwendwa is now a free man after the prosecution closed his graft probe file.

On November 17, High Court Senior Principal Magistrate Wandia Nyamu gave the state seven days to prefer charges against the embattled FKF after detectives sought to detain him for 14 days to complete investigations, failure of which he would be released unconditionally.

Mwendwa was arrested over mismanagement of public funds disbursed to the Football Kenya Federation by the government.

However, in a virtual court session, the prosecution Thursday said it had not prepared any charges against Mwendwa, prompting the court to release him.

“We seek to close the file as our team proceeds with probing the case at our own pace before we prefer charges against him,” said the DPP.

Magistrate Wandia Nyamu also ordered that Nick Mwendwa’s Sh4 million cash bail be refunded to him.

The Director of Public Prosecutions has said they will proceed with further investigations in the case.
