RIP, Former Women Representative, Kwale County
Former Kwale County Women Representative, Zainab Chidzuga is dead. Chidzuga was the mother of
former TV anchor Mwanaisha Chidzuga. Chidzuga passed away on Thursday, August 12, at Reliance
Hospital where she had been receiving treatment. Her son Hassan Chidzuga confirmed the
development. Mama Zainab as fondly known has been serving as a board member at the National Oil
Corporation parastatal till her death. This is a position she was appointed to in June 2018 by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Before joining the political bandwagon, Mama Zainab served as the Coast Province treasurer for Maendeleo ya Wanawake Organization (MYWO) for more than two decades. She also served as the chairperson of the latter in Kwale County.
Being a widow and to join politics she had to be strong enough to fend off the negativity that
comes with the political crowds. Also, the binding coastal culture that disregards the woman and her
rights. She said when interviewed by one of the media TV stations that she draws her inspiration from
Hillary Clinton, Sirleaf Johnson, and Margaret Thatcher are phenomenal women.
Many condolences messages are flowing in with many eulogizing Mama Zainab as a selfless woman.
The DP also took to Social media to send his condolences to the family of Mama Zainab and he cited that
Kenya has lost a visionary leader and a champion of women’s empowerment.
Rigathi Gachagua sent out a tweet with his condolences to the family, “My condolences to the family, relatives, and friends of former Kwale County Woman Representative mama Zainab Chidzuga. Rest in peace”
